Most people who know Jim Thompson know him to be the Dallas-based founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Preston Hollow Capital, LLC (PHC), which is one of the best financial services firms in the country. That firm is a highly capitalized non-bank finance company with acknowledged expertise in the field of municipal specialty finance. Under Jim Thompson’s leadership, this Dallasfirm has built up a team of experienced and highly coveted professionals capable of making deals in executive management, but many of their pros can also handle structuring, trading, credit and business operations.
Throughout his long financial services and municipal finances career, Jim Thompson has treated Dallas as his home, as well as a community in which he does business. He is so dedicated to Dallas that, when it came time to leave his position as the CEO of ORIX USA, to establish his own firm, he actually did so in the same downtown Dallas building. His time at ORIX USA had been very successful; by the time he left them, they had more than 1,400 employees, and they owned assets of more than $5 billion, at the same time they were managing $28 billion in third-party assets.
Jim Thompson obviously serves his Dallas client businesses well, given the level of trust he enjoys. That’s probably a result of his efforts to gain a high level of knowledge and experience in the financial services sector over his career, which has him working in the sector for about four decades so far. Prior to his success at ORIX USA, Jim Thompson also held senior management positions with Financial Corporation of Santa Barbara and Mission Hills Mortgage. In those two positions, he was responsible for various loan origination, securitization and other capital markets and investment related functions.
